Have you ever had a crappy boss? (Everyone has) Now can you think of a time you worked for someone awesome who positively impacted you while simultaneously taking the organization to new levels of excellence. The latter probably had someone coaching them, while the former thought they were too good for executive coaching.

Leaders often stall in their career, professional performance, or personal development. The same might be true for the organizations they lead. Here is where coaching has the greatest impact.

The meat and potatoes of executive coaching is helping business leaders process and resolve their dilemmas. Their learning then translates into direct results for the organization. An executive coach works through a variety of issues in a practical, goal-oriented way to improve and develop the client. The coach helps to focus the client on important development that might otherwise be ignored or neglected. Clients reflect on their decisions, confront difficult realities, and get guidance about replacements for their behaviour.

Your coaching with Scott would include many of the following elements.

  • Personality tests (Meyers-Briggs; DiSC; Big-5)
  • Leadership Assessment- How you compare to other leaders.

  • Identify the behaviours that are blocking you from success and plan a work-around.
  • Training on executive best practices that are most applicable to your context.
  • Accountability to deliver on the goals you set for yourself.
  • The application of Sports Psychology tricks to increase performance
  • The Advance Leadership method – Scanning-Planning-Activate-Calibrate –
  • Engagements are generally 6 months – 9 months.
  • Sessions last between 60-90 minutes.
  • Can be done over the phone or face to face.
  • Generally every two weeks.
  • Can include extra phone calls between regularly scheduled sessions as needed.
  • Longer engagements may qualify for a government grant (Sask-jobs grant).

I have been to many conferences for leadership development and nothing has come close to the last 6 months of coaching with Dr. Scott, – who is now more of a friend, then just another coach. After going to conferences, I often took hundreds of notes to try to personalize and action the things I learned. With Scott, everything is personalized and actionable because it is all about my leadership journey and me. The things we talked about were relatable to “my” everyday experiences, vs a speakers experience. Scott is incredibly knowledgeable, personable, engaging, friendly, and flexible with time and a great listener who asks great questions. He coached when I needed coaching and gave advice when I needed advice. If you are considering a coach, look no further. You found him…his name is Dr. Scott Francis! If nothing else, you should stop reading about Scott and give him a call for a coffee – you won’t regret it. -Francis Dixon
