Who am I?

My name is Scott Francis. I am an executive coach and host of Leader.FM (An online talkshow for intelligent leaders). I grew up on a farm near the infamous town of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. My family and I now live close to Regina. When I am not doing my professional work as a leadership development specialist, I can be often found doing work as a volunteer fire fighter or as a ski patroller.

In 2015 I finished off an epic personal and professional journey with the completion of a PhD in Leadership Studies. It still feels a little weird when people call me Dr. Scott.

 

 

The reason I did a doctorate degree was to answer a question that had become an obsession for me. That question was “How can we take an average person and transform them into a leadership powerhouse?”

You see, I was just an average leader myself. I spent seven years as the Vice President of Student Services for a small college. There had been a few relative wins and success stories. However, there were an equal number of disasters and train wrecks. I thought that I was doing ok. Yet I dreaded someone discovering that I did not have it all together.

I had vision and passion, but my to-do-list was a mess. I had every intention to develop

great relationships with my coworkers, but there was often unnecessary conflict. I found myself drifting from year to year without any really ambitious targets. And I often fell short of the performance targets that were in front of me.

As a person, I felt a sense of emptiness and mediocrity. It was like apathy was crawling up my back, slowly choking out any potential for greatness.

What I really wanted was to have a kick-butt team that accomplished great things while enjoying ourselves as we worked together.

At the time, I did not realize that I had many of the right pieces already on hand. It just needed to be aligned and sharpened.

That is when I started my studies with this driving question. What are the top methods used today to build and shape greatness into potential leaders? This became a four year obsession and ended up being the focus of my dissertation. I discovered 30 different methods used by todays top psychologists, trainers, and executive coaches.

Some of the techniques I discovered were incredibly powerful. Some could up-shift a leader’s abilities in a matter of days. Others took the leader deep into professional growth curves. Unfortunately, some of the approaches were terribly shallow in what they could really offer, even though they were well marketed.

To my surprise, people started asking me to coach them in their own leadership development while I was still engaged in my studies. I soon found myself with an executive coaching practice working with entrepreneurs, executives, manufacturing companies, and the largest non-profit organizations in North America.

Through my work, I have discovered that most developing leaders run into similar challenges. Certain themes seemed to always emerge.

Eventually I realized that there is a way to accelerate leadership growth.  Growth comes by 1) addressing those important common themes head on; 2) practicing specific prescribed habits that are common in the most elite leaders; and 3) doing it with a group of people equally driven to change.

I adapted the best methods used by Executive Coaches to compile an advance leadership development system.

The details

The Nautilus Leadership Development Cycle is made up of six kaudices. Each kaudux lasts for 28 days and gives you just the right amount of time to start and maintain a new positive leadership behaviour until it becomes a habit.

You will gather with other people on the same development journey. You have a choice of joining a group that 1) meets together in Regina, or 2) joining a group that meets exclusively online in webinar format. Dr. Scott will explain the concepts for that month and then prescribe a new habit to implement. You will then discuss it as a group, sharing powerful incites from your own experience. Then, two weeks later, you gather together again to discuss how the new habit is going, to layer on reinforcement and to challenge each other in our stated goals. This will continue for 12 sessions (6 months)

Since dialogue and reflection is central to adult learning, a mastermind group like this serves to reinforce and energize your growth cycle.
